Howard Levy



Howard Levy (b. July 31, 1951 in Brooklyn, New York City) is anAmerican harmonica player and pianist. In 1997, at the 39th GrammyAwards, he and the rest of B?la Fleck and the Flecktones won the awardfor Best Pop Instrumental Performance for their live recording of their1991 song "The Sinister Minister". A renowned interpreter of the jazzharmonica, he has played with Ben Sidran and Rabih Abou-Khalil, amongothers.

He has appeared on over 200 albums and has played on several moviesoundtracks. In 2001, he composed the first concerto written for thediatonic harmonica. He has performed it many times with orchestras inthe United States and Europe.

He is music director of the Latin/Jazz group Ch?vere de Chicagowhose first album was Secret Dream. Currently he also leads the bandAcoustic Express, plays duo concerts with pianist Anthony Molinaro, andtours Europe with Michael Riessler and Jean-Louis Matinier. Howard hasrecorded or toured with Kenny Loggins, Donald Fagen, Bobby McFerrin,Sandip Burman, Dolly Parton and Paquito D'Rivera.

He was the first to use the overblow and overdraw techniques forchromatic playing on the diatonic harmonica in the 1970s. These allow aharmonica player to obtain all the missing chromatic notes in theRichter-tuned diatonic harmonica.

He continues to make frequent appearances on Garrison Keillor's acclaimed radio program Prairie Home Companion.

Jeff Coffin



Jeff Coffin (born August 5, 1965) is an American jazz musician. Heis most known as a saxophonist but also plays clarinet and flute. Afterattending the University of New Hampshire and the University of NorthTexas, Coffin entered the Nashville music scene in 1991. He studiedunder Joe Lovano, under a grant from the National Endowment for theArts.

He has been a member of B?la Fleck and the Flecktones since March1997, and has performed on every Flecktones album since and includingLeft of Cool. Coffin has released several albums independent from theFlecktones, most notably the February 2005 release Bloom, recordedduring the Flecktones year-long hiatus. He is well known for playingtwo saxophones (alto and tenor) at the same time, a techniquepopularized by Roland Kirk. He recently played clarinet for The Waifsnew album Sun Dirt Water.

Jeff Coffin has also played on hundreds of studio recordings, andhas performed around the world including a 2007 performance at theesteemed Carnegie Hall with the Flecktones. As a highly in demandclinician, Jeff has presented clinics from Farmington, Maine to Perth,Australia and is also an internationally acclaimed Yamaha and VandorenPerforming Artist and clinician since 2000.

On June 30, 2008, it was announced that Jeff Coffin would join DaveMatthews Band during their summer tour, while the band's ownsaxophonist, LeRoi Moore, was recovering from an ATV accident. OnAugust 19, Moore died unexpectedly from complications stemming from theaccident. It is unclear if Coffin will remain with the band long term.

Roy Wilfred Wooten (born October 13, 1957 in Hampton, Virginia)better known by his stage name Future Man (also spelled as Futureman),is an inventor, musician, and composer. He is known as Futch to hisfans.[1] He is a percussionist and member of the jazz quartet B?laFleck and the Flecktones. The other members are banjoist B?la Fleck,saxophonist Jeff Coffin, and RoyEl's brother, electric bass virtuosoVictor Wooten.

Roy Wooten was raised in a military family and therefore traveledfrequently. He is the second of five sons born to Dorothy and Elijah"Pete" Wooten. He graduated from Denbigh High School in Newport News,Virginia in 1975. He briefly attended music classes at Norfolk StateUniversity upon graduating from high school, and then embarked on hisprofessional music career. He and his brothers moved to Nashville,Tennessee in the mid-1980s.

All of his brothers are musicians. The oldest, Regi, is a guitaristand much sought-after teacher in Nashville. Roy Wooten, Regi, and histhree younger brothers, Rudy (saxophone), Joseph (keyboards), andVictor (bass guitar), performed as The Wooten Brothers in numerousmusical venues in the Hampton Roads area of southeast Virginia duringthe 1970s.

Wooten is a four-time Grammy Award-winning performer with B?laFleck and the Flecktones. For the Flecktones, he plays the Drumitar, anovel electronic instrument of his own invention.

More recently, Wooten has developed a new electronic instrumentcalled the RoyEl,[2] which resembles a piano but plays notes not foundin the traditional western music scales. This instrument is based onthe periodic table of elements[2] and the golden ratio.

Solo work

Like the other members of the Flecktones, Future Man has worked onvarious solo projects during his time off from the band. On his ownWooten often dresses up as a pirate and uses the pseudonym "RoyEl", thename he gave to the keyboard instrument he invented. Future Man's soloalbums are experimental and incorporate diverse musical genres andconcepts. On Evolution de la Musique, for example, he infuses classicalmusic with jazz elements, especially improvisation, and spoken word.Future Man's solo works are:
